Hot enough for ya?

I don't usually think too much about opinion polls. But this one I found interesting. Despite the fear campaign of Big Oil and their consume! consume! consume! friends, more Canadians believe that 'agressive' action on climate change outweighs the importance of paying less for gasoline.

I think deep down, we know on a global scale we're rich and that we will adjust. If anything, Canadians know what it's like to be taxed. If it's for the general good they will whine but pay up anyway.

That, and I think we are ready for the big governments to step up to the plate and make changes that only they have the power to enforce. Like fuel-efficiency regulations, and mandated emissions reductions, real investments in public transit and incentives for sustainable housing.

The idea that citizens are somehow going to solve this problem with flourescent bulbs is laughable. Governments are the largest actors in most economies, and they know it. We give them powers like taxation to solve problems like this. If only they'd get started. . .

The main problem with government is the same old story. You often hear these statements being discussed in your local, rural general store by hard working, ordinary, everyday people.

'People in government are paid way too much for what they do.'

'They don't know what they're doing.

'They have the agendas of big business as their first order of importance to satisfy. Then if they lose their gov' paying position, they can hopefully go work for same private big business as a reward.'

'Politicians realize that carbon taxing is a money-making opportunity, and will waste much of the potential good this money could do - since we don't elect public officials in a very intelligent fashion.'

So, wy do we have the problems we have now?

Because, the term 'Common Sense Practices' has really never been part of early, grade school education, or the educational system as a whole.

Society in its infinite wisdom has allowed the educational system over the generations since the average family has left the quintessential family farm of yesteryear, to be corrupted by indoctrinating a 'Business Model' to be taught to all grade school, and high school students - one that is in its very essence against the natural world around us.

This is why so many of us in society are helpless in our adult lives in determining what the best, most reasonable course of action should be given almost any situation.

From early on, we have had our precious, more natural rationalizing skills including art and music-making appreciation ripped away from our sense of awareness, and collective consciousness.

Many students simply see themselves going onto university studies (which is good) but the way in which we do it, this enforces a psychologically biased perspective at how they regard the experience of working with their own hands in the dirt of an organic garden, or mastering the skills, and humbleness of building your own home, etc.

Too many times have I seen structural engineers called in to look at what is rather a simple renovation job on a residence.

We've lost many basic skills using our hands, and therefore reasoning skills as well. We need to combine the two for everyone.

With all this said - Who knows - maybe things will change... Thanks for giving me something to ramble about - I feel better now...
